Roar! Roar! Roar! On the 17th of January, Leo Club of SMK St.Teresa held a Handover Ceremony for Sejarah reference books. Lions International Club donated these books to all the schools in Kuching. Our school received a total of 30 sets of Sejarah reference books along with a laser printer worth more than RM2000.

This ceremony involves a lot of honorable guests. They are District Governor Kapitan Ronny Hiew & Spouse, Past President Chee Suk Fun, Multiple District 308 Council Chairperson Datuk Douglas Oh and companion Zachary Oh. Other than that, Past International Director, LCIF Area Leader, Datin Hajah Ellis Suriyati, Immediate Past District Governor, Kapitan Connie Loh,1st Vice District Governor Annie Ho,Past District Governor Mary Law,Past District Governor James Teo
and Region 1 Chairperson, Feliz Hu.

The ceremony started with singing the national anthem and the state anthem. Then, an eloquent speech was given by Region 1 Chairperson, Feliz Hu followed by a welcome speech from our Principal, Madam Disin.

Datuk Douglas Oh then spoke about how important Sejarah is. He said Sejarah isn’t only important for us to get our SPM certificate. “Politics without history is like a tree without its roots, and history without politics is like leaves without its branches. These two things are related.” He said.

Kapitan Ronny Hiew also gave his speech explaining about the books and the printer. Fun fact, 2 daughters of Datin Hajas Ellis Suriyati are teresians. They studied in St Teresa back in the 1980s.

Our school prepared a token of appreciation for the honorable guests. The ceremony ended with photo-taking sessions and light refreshments in the conference room. The room was filled with touches of laughter and hand claps.

Thank you Lion International Club for the generous donation. We students, will make good use of the books and printer. I would also like to say thank you to the guests for coming to our school despite their busy schedules.

Love and Serve,

Iris Sofea
